Dedicated to the memory of Dorothy Lloyd

This site is a tribute to Dorothy Lloyd. She is much loved and will always be remembered.

Dorothy Lloyd passed away on 21 January 2022.  Her final days were spent surrounded by her family in the Lincombe Manor Care Centre.  Dorothy loved the view of the Bay from her window and watching the birds on the bird feeder.  She said that she was staying in a posh hotel.

Dorothy was born on 4 March 1943 in Blackburn, Lancashire to parents William (Bill) and Gladys Holmes.  Dorothy attended Blackburn High School before moving to Torquay where she attended Torquay Girls’ Grammar School.  Her family had holidayed in Goodrington, Paignton for many years.

Dorothy was the younger sister of Arthur, mum to Paul and Claire, mother-in-law to Craig, grandmother to Oliver and Mitchell and wife to Michael.

Dorothy married Michael in August 1969 thereby commencing 51 years of marriage before Michael sadly passed away in November 2020.  Dorothy was working at Paignton School for Girls but chose to leave when she had Claire in 1973.  The following years saw working at Pontins before moving to Essex and running NSS Newsagents, moves to Norfolk and Suffolk, owning a craft shop and working in sales before moving back to Devon and starting work at Sutton Seeds.

Following retirement, she and Michael bought a house in General Inzovo, a village in Bulgaria.  They spent 13 years there and Dorothy made lots of friends.  She missed them very much when she returned to England.

Dorothy loved cats, wild birds and donkeys.  Throughout her married life, there were always cats in the family.  Dorothy’s cat, Felix, who came over from Bulgaria now has a new life with Claire. In Bulgaria, her love of birds included the nesting and migration of the storks each year.  Perhaps Dorothy’s main love of animals though was Donkeys.

Just down the road from their house in Bulgaria, there was a patch of land where villagers kept their donkeys.  Dorothy would often taken carrots down to them and make a fuss over them.

Dorothy is sadly missed by her family and friends, but they take comfort that she is now at peace.
